Big Tree Damage by Sea Pines Resort

In what appears to local butterfly and tree activists to have been a concerted effort, a line of eucalyptus trees were destroyed along the ridge-line of the Morro Bay Estuary State Marine Reserve and their debris removed quickly and quietly as word spread about the dirty deed!

Alerted by a concerned post on ‘Neighbors’ social media group, activists converged on the crime scene rapidly, but not fast enough to catch the perpetrators who removed the tree trunks, and deleted the online conversation. One of the trees was a California Heritage Tree, defined as older than the state of California on the site LORAX.

The story and alibi kept changing as the anti-tree pro-development faction in the county switched from ‘shallow root systems’ to ‘drink too much groundwater’ as the questions from residents with knowledge of events poured in. Eventually, the entire post and thread was wiped from ‘neighbors’ without comment or explanation.

Resident tree activists are calling for a boycott against Sea Pines Golf Resort in Los Osos, in hopes of preventing more tree cutting leading to the extinction of the Monarch Butterfly. Please stay tuned for more on-the-turf reporting as events unfold.
