Terra Attacks

The Pope has arrived as Saint Francis of Assisi
So has the gunfire on Avenue des Champs-Élysées
But who could have done these most hideous acts
The press has gone viral without all the facts

The news of the world is now 24 seven
200 dead, just a dozen to heaven
And who of all people got knocked of the air
It looks like Al Gore once again, it ain’t fair

The climate spectacular set to begin
Exxon and Mobil to court for their sin
Greenland is melting much faster than thought
We can’t let this build said big oil, distraught

What would it take to take over the airwaves
How many innocents sent to their early graves
Hire the mercenaries ten million each
When they are done meet the sub at the beach

Too many billions at stake in the game
Elton, Bon Jovi all using their fame
Bringing the climate awareness we fear
Leading to Paris December this year

Never mind polar bears, we’re the endangered
Who’s gonna pay for our jets and Road Rangers
We can’t let that concert go world-wide as planned
Go shoot up Paris and one of the band

dead orca

Seaworld Sanitarium

French Riviera never really cared
about a whale named Valentin
French Riviera never was prepared
against the storm that did him in

Halfway ‘round the world San Diego Seaworld
wanted to build bigger tanks
Couldn’t care less about Antibes muddy mess
and soon doomed to join their ranks

A Sting-ray has stung his last
Muddy bay approaching fast
Sea Turtle, Sand Shark
Lights out, darkened park

Complacency is what we’ve got
Orcas in the parking lot
Sea Lions you can’t see
Waters of turbidity

Stop the madness shut them down
Mighty orca’s not your clown
Marineland, Seaquarium
Seaworld Sanitarium

Write a letter, demonstrate
Stand outside of Seaworld’s gate
Their time is coming, they will fall
Free the orcas, free them all

joey racano

The drama continues to unfold in Antibes France, at Marineland, largest marine park in Europe. The park owners ignored the warning in 2011 when they were hit by a major flood, and re-built the park, even adding new buildings that served to funnel the storm surge waters in from the ocean when the hurricane hit last week. The entire park was inundated, with 90% mortality being reported by activists fighting their way around a total press blackout.

http://m.nicematin.com/…/deces-de-lorque-valentin-a-marinel…

Wilkie and Keijo in 2014:

Valentin has already died in a tank of filth and mud, and now there are unconfirmed reports that keijo has died as well, with Wilkie’s condition deteriorating. According to french activists, the crane pictured was rented and is being used to move the orca bodies to a secret location for low-key necropsies.

Obviously this was a preventable tragedy, and a crime against nature, and it has grave implications for the Seaworld tank expansion in San Diego. How could Seaworld San Diego protect their captive orcas from such a storm driven surge? The answer is simple- they couldn’t.

Stand by for updates.

Free the Orcas!

Free the Orcas!

The Fish the Fry and the Whale

The fish, the fry and the whale
Fortunes entwined at the tail
Heartless captivity slammed
River of sadness be dammed

The tiniest fish is the smelt
Incredible fate she’s been dealt
Endowed by the courts with great powers
To heal watersheds within hours

For NOAA, the message is clear
Move boldly ahead without fear
Give the Endangered priority
And resident orcas seniority

Seventy Eight are what’s left
After four decades of theft
Tell whale prisons run by pathetics
We need Lolitas genetics!

NOAA must not be complacent
Restore the Columbia Basin
The watershed needs King Chinook
And the sea needs the orcas you took!

joey racano

Everything NOAA needs to know to make this decision is right here in black and white: Lolita must go free.

“Supreme Court leaves in place a longstanding ruling that the Endangered Species Act requires federal agencies to consider the preservation of all endangered species their highest priority.”

State of the Union 2015

State of the Union Address 2015
-by Joseph Racano

Thank you.

I thank you very much and now I ask that you please be seated.

2015 and its predecessor were amazing years in history as is well known by all who shared them, not only in our great nation but those having done so in countries abroad as well.

We watched live-wire jetliners vanish without a trace, banksters being rescued and genocidal dogmatics elevated to sainthood. In America, we endured the offhand propensity for poorly trained and rarely prosecuted law enforcement personnel to address racial tensions with the barrel of their service revolvers.

We continue to label people ‘aliens’, though they come from the same planet we do.

Perhaps it would be wise for us to envision what might come next if indeed we were all made to speak the same language. The next step could be to all wear the same shoes, wear the same ties, drive the same cars, and even hold the same opinions. In Paris, proponents of such extreme monoculture recently attempted to silence freedom of expression and diversity with terror tactics. In a sign of our troubled times, authorities then handed instant victory to these terrorists by immediately arresting scores of people afterward who voiced any support for their cause, however misguided their tactics.

Ask yourself, what is the fate for those who choose not to be Charlie Hebdo? A dragonfly-sized drone on the windowsill, eavesdropping on their morning coffee, or maybe a larger one dropping bombs on their wedding reception? It is no longer enough to agree to disagree. We must be willing to defend those with whom we disagree, and do so without fear of being labeled an enemy combatant.

In Guantanamo, a long-held prisoner has written a soon-to-be-released book about his time in that shameful, still open American torture chamber. It has been heavily redacted. One wonders if he will go on a book tour after being tortured in prison, and will his torturer Dick Cheney go to prison after completing his book tour.

With the republicans now firmly in control of the United State Senate, and their democratic counterparts keeping them there by disenfranchising their own voter base, it is unlikely a new world paradigm is on the horizon to replace the new world order.

And without that paradigm, America, along with the rest of the world, can only continue our slide into the abyss of a not-so-brave new world, one without glaciers, fresh air, truth, or freedom.

Thank you and have a good evening!

Thousands March on Miami Seaquarium

Thousands March on Miami Seaquarium

Thousands Rise for Freedom

‘Freedom, let your sweet bell ring
Orcas haven’t done a thing
Only fools would want to cage
The greatest predator of our age’

joey racano

“Lolita is a southern Orca who was captured 44 years ago in Puget Sound. She is part of an endangered species that is in vital need of naturally reproducing. January 17 is a day when humans will meet near her holding tank to demand that she be returned to her waters where her genes will help the species recover. She is an intelligent, social, family oriented animal who has been calling to her family for decades. It is time to reunite her with her family. It is the kind and humane thing to do.”
-David Georgi, professor emeritus

Marches were also held in Seattle, Las Vegas, San Diego, Colorado and in London, all demanding freedom for orcas and for and end to the slaughter of dolphins at Tajji, Japan.

NEWSFLASH: Dems reject Keystone XL pipeline in close vote. According to some sources, there will be another vote at a later date, after which Obama will likely use the pipeline as a bargaining chip in order for another of his policies to pass. Meanwhile, the US State Department ignores the sister project, Enbridge Line 67, which is moving ahead without permits.

Maybe you saw the link or my letter in the Los Angeles Times in response to old oil rigs being left in the ocean to be called ‘reefs’. I got one response, obviously from some long-winded oil stooge and I will include the exchange below. But first, here’s the new news about how the BP oil has made the former Gulf of Mexico into an oily bath of death:

http://www.nola.com/environment/index.ssf/2014/10/bp_spill_left_bathtub_ring_of.html

Translation? There’s an Exxon Valdez worth of oil slopping around the Macondo well on the dead gulf bottom, and far more languishing in the vicinity. And yet, here you have the brain dead Mr. Harris calling me names (my reply at bottom):

My letter:

http://www.latimes.com/opinion/readersreact/la-le-1025-saturday-oil-rigs-reefs-20141025-story.html

Mr. Harris’s comment on my letter:

Stephen Harris – Indep.
• Rank 8213
For those who are not familiar with offshore drilling operations to compare a $1.5 billion engineering and structural marvel, one of the finest examples of what engineers can do ever seen, to a shopping cart is simply ignorant. All oil companies have end-of-life (“EOL”) demolition and removal budgeted, in addition to massive State Federal bonding that goes into the hundreds of millions of dollars per unit. It is not the oil companies that are pushing for continuing usage of the substructure, usually over 100 feet from the surface for clearance, but the various state agencies and some true environmental outfits that actually have sued the companies to stop the de-commissioning of EOL units. The point is, if some underwater craft, like a US submarine, were to actually hit one of these “rigs-to-reef” projects then all major oils and independents know full well they will still have liability, so they have to correct such continuing liability or the millions of shareholders that are the actual owners of the major oil companies would fire all of the Board and Management if they left the company exposed in such a manner. Fortunately, for 15 years now, the waivers have been forthcoming sufficient to cover such potential liability and every single one of the rigs-to-reef projects have been absolute spectacular success stories as to natural habitats and the creation thereof. This is nothing new, except to “hit” bloggers and those looking for an excuse to undermine American energy security. « less

Somebody please tell Mr. Harris that his 1.5 billion dollar marvel left an oily bathtub ring the size of Delaware in the Gulf of Mexico. Remember this: These rigs use the latest tech to digitally position themselves at precise coordinates in the ocean, but only to suck up the dirtiest, most primitive form of energy- oil. Some marvel.

When the Baleen Doors Slam Shut

Door slams shut!

Whump!

When the Doors Slam Shut

No one could believe it
Whales were in the Bay
In numbers that had not been seen
for many long a day

A shutterbugs exclusive
Who gets to be that close?
Baleenoptera performance opera
In a mighty dose

Some drew near in kayaks
And birds danced on the nose
But you don’t want to be there
when that cavern starts to close!

Zooming in with cameras
Focus all in view
Zooming birds, excited words
And someone lost a shoe

Surfboards crossed the safety borders
Let me tell you whut-
WHUMP! You better back up when
The baleen doors slam shut!

Notes: Having evolved together in a sacred partnership, the Pelicans are in no danger. The whale in this photo waited patiently for the bird to fly out before closing up shop!

Sea of Suffering

http://sandiegofreepress.org/2014/03/whats-with-all-those-protests-at-seaworld/#.UzhjqVfRgo9

What’s with All Those Protests at SeaWorld?

By Barb Dunsmore / Special from the OB Rag

SeaWorld-orca-v-money: When it comes to impassioned feelings about SeaWorld, most readers of the OB Rag are well aware that much has recently been written, discussed, filmed, and documented. The world began to take notice with the release of Gabriella Cowperthwaite’s documentary Blackfish. It started with ripples of awareness that have now become waves of deep concern. The worldwide anger the movie unleashed is nearly impossible to ignore.

While SeaWorld was celebrating their 50th anniversary last Friday [March 21], everyday citizens, myself included, were standing on Sea World Drive protesting 50 years of inhumane captivity, drawing attention to what we, and a growing number of people around the world see as a new vision for SeaWorld: the recently proposed California Captive Orca Welfare and Safety Act – AB 2140. A new vision that could be a win-win for the orcas and SeaWorld alike, where the orcas would finally be free from the confines and cruel control inflicted upon them daily.

Who are we that protest you ask?

We are a growing group of passionate believers in the equality of humans and non-humans to live in this world without cruelty or enslavement or captivity of any kind. We want our children to revere all animals and not see them as something here for our entertainment, but rather have an undying respect and appreciation for them.

We are professional doctors, lawyers, small business owners, students, teachers, writers, artists, parents, environmentalists from all walks of life. We come from a place of integrity and a united desire to see animals treated just the way we all wish to be treated. What a concept!

We want to encourage the efforts of Assemblymember Richard Bloom (D), Santa Monica, to pass Assembly Bill 2140—California Captive Orca Welfare and Safety Act and hope you will join us in this effort. (More on that below.)

We don’t want SeaWorld to shut its doors

We do not want Sea World to shut its doors; nor do we believe the passage of AB 2140 would result in the closing of SeaWorld or be a huge revenue loss for the City of San Diego. Rather, quite the opposite. SeaWorld doesn’t need to close to operate more humanely – it just needs to change its business model.

Today’s most popular attractions involve everything from visual, interactive, digitized features that both entertain as well as educate the public. Now with gigantic animatronics and life-size animation facets, we are brought into worlds of everything from distant planets, under-the-sea life, exotic and ever-so-realistic monsters, dinosaurs, sharks, etc. The possibilities are limitless. SeaWorld could very well be as globally exciting as Disneyland, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Universal Studios, and so many other huge entertainment venues that do not involve captive, performing animals.

The reality is that Sea World is not the happy-go-lucky world it appears to be. There is something rotten festering beneath the waters. The orcas–captive, inbred, kidnapped from their pods, mothers and babies torn away from each other in agony, isolated in solitary confinement and suffering from everything from physical diseases to mental trauma—these are the “performers” captured for entertainment solely for the commercial coffers of Sea World.

We can no longer applaud the tragedy we now know exists behind the scenes. There needs to be a new and more compassionate Sea World—a beautiful new perspective that will change not only the lives of what we call the ‘San Diego 10,’ but generations of other marine mammals imprisoned in the name of “family entertainment.”

Meet the ‘San Diego 10’

Meet the ‘San Diego 10’:

Corky II, captive 45 yrs.;
Kasatka, captive 36 yrs.:
Ulises captive 34 yrs. – all three wild caught, kidnapped from their mothers, their pods. Then there is
Makani,
Kalia,
Ikaika,
Nakai,
Shouka,
Keet
and Orkid,– all captive bred held prisoner from 13 months to 21 yrs., respectively. – see here:

http://deathatseaworld.com/?p=968

SeaWorld, you have made millions, if not billions off the capture, breeding and confinement of these massive, beautiful, intelligent orcas for decades. Don’t you think it’s time you give something back to them? Use your billions to invest in and release the ‘San Diego 10’ to seaside sanctuaries, if not the wild. It’s time for a moral, ethical and compassionate change, Sea World. The world is watching…Empty the Tanks.

The students of Pt. Loma High School have a message for you SeaWorld.

Here is what you can do right now. Call and/or write to:

1. Your own Assemblymember.

2. The Assemblymembers on the Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee. (Find here http://sandiegofreepress.org/2014/03/whats-with-all-those-protests-at-seaworld/#.UzhjqVfRgo9)

• AB 2140 must be approved by Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee FIRST in order for it to move forward. Hearing date has not yet been set but we are hopeful it will be sometime in April.

3. The Assemblymembers on the Appropriations Committee (once the bill has been referred to this committee, we will put the word out, no need to call them yet).

Contact info for this committee may be found here

http://sandiegofreepress.org/2014/03/whats-with-all-those-protests-at-seaworld/#.UzhjqVfRgo9

If your Assemblymember sits on one of the committees in which the bill will be heard, make sure you say it will be heard in the committee when communicating your support. Supporters should write to their Assemblymember, as well as the Chair and Vice-Chair of the committee in which the bill will be heard next (at present, that would be Assemblymembers Rendon and Bigelow).

Messages should be polite, concise and to-the-point: A simple “I Support AB 2140” sponsored by Assemblymember Bloom, will suffice.

And lastly, please sign this Petition to the State of California joining over 1,131,000 others who support the passage of AB 2140 –

“The greatest kindness to be achieved here would be to end breeding and prevent any new captures from being brought in, so the whole concept just fades away. That way the bad idea of cetacean captivity that is and always has been can be put behind us.” ~ Kaarina Makowski.

SeaWorld’s 50th Anniversary Protest

Note: Very recently “a bill that would ban keeping orca whales in captivity in New York passed in the state’s Standing Committee on Environmental Conservation, meaning that it is one step closer to being signed into law.”
