 ’Good Will Hunting’

Anchorage, Alaska:

Despite lackluster coverage in the mainstream press, it is beginning to trickle out that Sarah Palin raised such hate at political rallies during her run for Vice President, that the Secret Service identified a direct correlation between her venomous attacks on Barack Obama, and death threats against his life. The right-wing-owned press twisted it’s reports on the matter to make it seem poor little Sarah snapped back at ‘those meanie McCain advisers for bad mouthing her behind her back’. But during campaign rallies, she spouted such vile rhetoric to McCain supporters -many of whom were white supremacists- that the McCain camp themselves were forced to reign her in, for fear it would induce assassination attempts. Here at EarthSourceMedia, we are glad she is back in the land of blizzards, alone in her office, drinking instant coffee and having to give back the expensive clothing the republicans bought her because she can’t afford the taxes she would otherwise have to pay on them. With all her abuses of power exposed, her heartless support of aerial wolf shooting, opposition to protecting orcas from sewage or salmon from gold mines, and support for oil company special interests- the threat of this lover of self, hater of the world and consummate evangelical hypocrite hopefully has been forever diminished.

 Arizona:

More facts have come to light about the 8 year old Arizona boy who shot his dad and dad’s friend with a rifle. The father had asked his priest what he thought about introducing an 8-year old to guns. The priest later told a newspaper the boy was ‘just too young’. As it turns out, the father was from a family of ‘avid hunters’ and didn’t want the boy to be afraid of guns. He also took the boy out and taught him to shoot prairie dogs. Police are looking for any clue that would point to the boys abuse, resulting in the killing. As a young boy, I remember vividly being made to stand by while my stepfather showed me how to shoot a squirrel. I watched it die in the mud. Police looking for clues of abuse need look no further than forcing a little boy who by nature loves animals, to shoot creatures he probably found very appealing. The real tragedy is this child will grow up missing his father, always blaming himself for his absence- but this was a crime committed by the father and not by the son. Hopefully, the boy will one day grow not only to miss his father, but to forgive him as well. -ESM

San Diego, California:

Throughout much of American government, democrats made political inroads in traditionally republican areas, and San Diego is no exception. With a ’strong’ mayor (the mayor has veto power), this city has been trounced by pro development forces, but that is soon to end. Democrats now outnumber republicans 5-2, and that is good news for activists like myself who want to see San Diego join the United States of America on issues like the federal Marine Mammal Protection Act and Clean Water Act. EarthSourceMedia will post a feature-length report on these issues in the Land-Air-Sea section of our site, so I won’t go into too much detail here on the blog, but suffice it to say that the San Diego City Council is meeting tomorrow to discuss imposing water conservation mandates on the citizens (which ESM supports), but the catch is, the outgoing majority just finished giving their developer buddies the nod to build a 4,100-unit development, sure to drink up an enormous amount of water. EarthSourceMedia quotes famous conservationist Captain Paul Watson of the Sea Shepherd Society (www.seashepherd.org), “The law of finite resources dictates you can’t grow without limit”. -ESM

More San Diego: California Secratary of Resources Mike Crissman will speak tomorrow in La Jolla, lecturing on the MLPA (Marine Life Protection Act) process by which Arnold Schwarzenegger seeks to implement a series of MPA’s (Marine Protected Areas) off the coast of ‘Ka-lee-fawnia’. I shall be in attendance too ask the pointed questions, “Why did he speak in favor of the Foothill South Toll Road extension last month, knowing the development it would cause will drown any Marine Protected Areas we make in urban runoff?” and, “How will we stop the 250 million gallons of dirty sewage San Diego dumps each day at Cabrillo National Monument at Point Loma from further harming these MPA’s? Stay tuned! -ESM

Silver Lake, California:

Having awakened a sleeping giant, the christian right yesterday saw tens of thousands of people demonstrate the passage of Prop 8, with more and larger demonstrations planned nationwide today. Meanwhile, religious groups and their churches plan to use the parochial success at passage in California as a national model. EarthSourceMedia recognizes the dangers inherent in such political manipulation by religious groups. Especially those who adhere to a doctrine of intolerance, adopt policies contradictory to the peaceful teachings of Jesus, and believe we are all about to die in a world-wide cataclysm making them little more than a glorified doomsday cult. And while we don’t want to see a return to feeding christians to lions, may we suggest the political among them don a pair of nikes and have a Hawaiian punch party?

EarthSourceMedia Obituary special:

James C. Warf died at 91 years old from cancer of the spine. Mr. Warf was a study in contradictions and a retired USC chemistry professor. According to the Los Angeles Times, he became a ‘peace activist’ after studying nuclear energy and the effects of radiation. According to EarthSourceMedia, you can never be a ‘peace activist’ after working on the Manhattan Project (when America made the first Atomic Bombs and dropped them on Japan- still the only nuclear weapons ever dropped on people by any country) and making statements like, “I was gratified that it was a success”. Mr. Warf wrote the definitive book, ‘All things Nuclear’, and in the end worked on ‘rare metals’, which sounds to ESM like depleted uranium and such. This man is no friend of ours, and was no ‘peace activist’ at time of death. -ESM

medicinal purposes

EarthSourceMedia reports for November 8th, 2008

In a wild departure from an egomaniac who made statements like, “God wants me to be President”, President Elect Barack Obama went to an animal shelter to get a puppy for his kids and said, “Mutts like me”, referring to his mixed-race heritage. Although I did not vote for either candidate of the two-party system, I do recognize a humility in this man and the hope he has brought to America. Now it is up to the people to realize that change must come from us. After all, it’s not the man, but those he inspires. -ESM

Washington:

In an indication of corporate media priorities, the Los Angeles Times today pondered what breed of dog the President Elect would choose, while news of a large growing hole in the Earth’s ozone layer over Antarctica languished in the lower left-hand corner of page 19. EarthSourceMedia hopes to fill a growing ‘information gap’ as mainstream media moves on to cover their next priority: what puppies name will be. Rex? Fido? Doonesbury?

Science and Medicine:

New research has determined through magnetic imaging that ‘bullies’ undergo an increase in brain activity at times when others feel pain. This could explain why evangelicals see a halo on George W. Bush and Sarah Palin.

Alaska:

A spokeswoman for former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin said that two people were told to ‘clean up Todd’ so he could ‘look the part’, referring to the vice president’s oft-disheveled spouse. It took two suits and $40,000.00- enough to clean up every chain gang in Louisiana.

Detroit:

General Motors is screaming for bailout money, saying they are losing billions in cash every quarter. EarthSourceMedia points to this as the free market system working as it should- GM killed the electric car, saying there was ‘no market for them’, and yet the Prius became a number one seller. Bad decision, bad company, bad idea to bail them out.

Washington, DC:

On his way out the door, President Bush is passing a flurry of ‘anti-regulation regulations’, in hopes of keeping polluters and other miscreants safe from having to act within the boundaries of ethical and moral decency. One of those regulations is causing outrage at hospitals, who said yesterday it greatly narrows the way they can spend medicaire money helping the poor. EarthSource Media sees this to be in stark contrast to the $750 billion dollars used to bail out the wealthy on wall street.

Pakistan:

In our ‘air strike-of-the-day’, an American missile killed 13 people inside Pakistan. U.S. Military officials said the missile, “…hit the house of a Taliban leader”. Because the Taliban is a religious group, EarthSourceMedia concludes that if the American Military outlaws any religion, it’s leaders will be bombed in their own country, in their own home. A while back, during the United States precipitous plunge into paranoia and idealogical darkness, a teacher was fired for comments he made that were secretly recorded by a student who had hidden a tape recorder beneath his desk. In those comments, the teacher made the point that since we bomb Afghanistan because they grow poppies used to make Heroin, which has killed thousands of Americans, it might be argued that China could bomb North Carolina because they grow tobacco, which kills millions of Chinese. Let’s hope nobody outlaws the christians.

Britain:

A British pilot had a stroke in mid-flight and was temporarily blinded. Flight support on the ground were able to ‘talk him down’, and he landed safely, giving a whole new meaning to ‘flying blind’.

Arcadia, California:

A 140 pound female Mountain Lion was killed yesterday after she killed a dog in a backyard. She may also have killed other pets in the area. Unfortunately, the ‘area’ is a development next to the Cleveland National Forest, a place where EarthSourceMedia thinks you should protect the wildlife before the pets. If you’re going to move into the wild, you have to take your place in the food chain- and it’s not at the top.

 San Diego, California:

Semper Die-

Today’s San Diego Union Tribune ran a story about how war-zone medicine can help us here at home.

A conference at Mercy Hospital in Hillcrest yesterday touted the stateside applications of battlefield trauma treatment. Such treatment might have come in handy last month when four Camp Pendleton Marines killed a fellow marine and his wife after ransacking their home in a Riverside County robbery. Another excellent application of trauma treatment learned in illegal wars started by lying to the american people would be the 8 year old who killed his father and uncle yesterday, utilizing a gun and his video game training. Finally, EarthSourceMedia suggests using the medical advances in trauma care for school violence, police violence, gang violence and even domestic violence. Let’s face it folks, war has finally found it’s niche.

From the many military graves I saw at Point Loma Thursday, to the backhoe there working feverishly to dig new ones, I’m joey racano saying, “Goodnight and go with grace”. -ESM

EarthSourceMedia Reports for November 7th, 2008

‘Prop 8 and Other Hate’

Westwood, California:

This election saw a black American elected President of the United States despite strong evangelical support for the opposition. But peace has not come to the little house on the prairie, no sir. The religious right has ventured far into American politics with Proposition 8, which passed in California. If it stands up under what is sure to be a barrage of legal challenges, it will ammend the constitution to define marriage as being between a man and a woman. EarthSourceMedia sees this as an intrusion into the bedroom, a’ la’ the famous line uttered by Denzel Washington in the movie, ‘Philladelphia’- “This is about who does what to whom, and how“.

Prop 8 was funded by all manner of christian organizations -including the Knights of Columbus and many churches- who poured money into the Yes on 8 political campaign, successfully, for the time being. But besides forcing their belief system on the rest of California, they may also have succeeded in igniting the civil war many see as inevitable. Based in Utah, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints pumped a sizeable chunk of money in as well. But the ‘passion of christ’ has also raised the passion of the gay community, who showed the world what they can do in San Francisco’s ‘Act Up!’ aids awareness campaign. Yesterday in Westwood, more than a thousand angry gays surrounded the Mormon temple, demonstrating concern over ammending the constitution to strip away their rights. EarthSourceMedia offers the provoking thought that America may be led to freedom by an army of gays and a black president. If christians can ammend the constitution, gays can ammend the pledge; it can go like this- ‘I pledge allegiance, to the fags, who united the states of America.’ Food for thought at ESM.

Moscow:

At a news conference in Russia, Italy’s right-wing Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi let his racist flag fly. A close ally of the outgoing Bush-Cheney administration, Berlusconi described United States President-elect Barack Obama as, …”young, handsome and even-tanned”. As an Italian-American, even I am appalled at a statement like that. As an American, period, I am insulted. I wonder, Mr. Berlusconi, are you a direct descendent of Mussolini?

Kiwanja, Congo:

A UN official says the Mai Mai killed civilians for supporting their enemy, the Nkunda’s rebels, and the Nkunda’s rebels killed civilians for supporting the Mai Mai. The loser in this violence is obviously the civilians. EarthSourceMedia sees it as very similar to the situation in Iraq.

Africa:

15-million dollars raised from the sale of ivory will go toward elephant conservation it was announced yesterday by four nations. EarthSourceMedia suggests that if this works, Tiger penis, used by chinese as an aphrodesiac, can be sold to help tigers, Swordfish can be protected by sale of their ’swords’, and Rhino horns can be sold to protect the last remaining Rhinos. -ESM

Belgium:

In another incredible performance by the far right, National Front Party Senator Michel Delacroix was shown on national television singing an insulting song about a jewish girl dying at the infamous German concentration camp at Dachau. There is an investigation underway and he may be stripped of  immunity.

St. Louis, Missouri:

The kids are watching- 10 Jewish children were struck at a suburban middle school by at least 4 classmates celebrating, ‘Hit a jew’ day. The incident occured at Parkway West Middle School in Chesterfield in October.

Wasington, DC:

The democrats are finally showing some intestinal fortitude as Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, fuming from a long string of betrayals, read a scathing statement about turncoat Joe Lieberman after a 45 minute meeting. It is expected Joe will be relieved of his Senate panel post- the political equivilent of being ‘branded’ in the US cavalry. No democrat myself, I think the whole party should be replaced with Greens, but I will point out that the first 3 letters of Lieberman spell lie

New York:

Finally today, it was announced the feds won’t charge Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer for a prostitution scandal that saw him removed from office in undeserved disgrace. It should be noted that articles carried in today’s papers make no mention of the reason this ever came out in the press- Spitzer dared accuse Bush of running interference for those involved in the predatory lending scandal that rocked the country and world. The prostitute scandal thing came out in the press immediately after an article written by Spitzer detailing Bush’s involvement in the housing collapse was published by the Washington Post. Read it here at ESM .

That’s news for today; I’m joey racano saying, read between the lines and, ‘Goodnight and go with grace’. -ESM

Spin Cycle

EarthSourceMedia Reports for November 6th, 2008

‘Spin Cycle’

Wall Street:

It hasn’t been two days and the Republican spin machine is off and running. The yahoo newsline is saying that wall street is down 10% since the presidential election. Well, I guess that means it’s all Obama’s fault, the whole economy thing! Truth is, the democrats are great on economy, always have been. The problem is that the republicans are management and the democrats are labor. During a republican administration, the wealthy make a killing by cutting the forests, developing the wilderness into condominiums and pumping pollution into the air and water. During democratic administrations, the unions make a killing doing exactly the same thing. But please neocons, do us a favor- let the ink dry on the ballots before you go heaping blame on the new prez, will ya? Now go plan some treachery. -ESM

San Diego, California:

In a mild form of road rage, I sat behind a vehicle on the 5 Freeway today shaking my head and clucking my tongue at the stickers on the car ahead of me. They were the usual declarations of christianity, like the jesus fish thing, the yellow ribbons that subliminaly look just like the jesus fish thing, American flags and a ‘Yes on 8′ bumper sticker. When the opportunity arose, I opened my window and tooted my horn. The guy opened his window and I asked him if he had voted on Prop 8. “Certainly did”, he said smugly.

“Oh, good” I said,” ’cause I don’t want christians getting married either”.

“And why not?” he asked.

“You have too many kids”, I declared.

“Too late”he said, “I already had three!”

“God help us!”, I concluded.

Los Angeles, California:

There will be seawater testing after all in California, after the State Waterboard allocated 2 Million Dollars for it, saving a program gutted by budget cuts. Personally, I wonder- why test the water after the sewage is dumped? Its a whole lot easier to monitor it as it comes out of the outfall pipe, especially in Point Loma, San Diego, where they dump up to 250 Million Gallons a day of sewage that has recieved miniscule treatment. I told them so today at the Point Loma Wastewater plant as I and others took the not-so-grande tour! Testing after-the-fact is akin to counting cattle as they mill about in a valley, rather than as they came through the gate. Be sure to read the up coming report on that tour, it may shock you. It’ll be filed under ‘Sea’ with a slideshow included. Great pics, too!  -ESM

Pomona, California:

Mayor Norma Torres was elected to the Assembly as the first Guatemalan in the Legislature. The first thing she said was, “Maldagamadanolamedisolasio”. Anybody speak Guatemalan?  (Just kidding, good luck Norma. :)

Roslyn, New York:

Master of doomsday scenarios Michael Crichton has died of cancer at 66 years old. His work was prolific as well as terrific, but I hated that he ‘dibelieved’ in Global warming. I’m sorry, but you’d have to be pretty stupid to still doubt it at this point, so I have to wonder about the guy. Especially since he hurt progress against CO2 with his book, ‘State of fear’, which got him invited to the Bush Whitehouse. I guess he didn’t know about the Polar Bears drowning out at sea for lack of ice flows to rest or hunt on.

Washington, DC:

The Supreme court is debating asylum for a former prison guard involved in torturing and killing prisoners. A guard who will be tortured himself if he is returned to his country. EarthSourceMedia believes that with good workers so hard to find, we might just hire him and send him to Guantanamo.

  Fallujah, Iraq:

In a sign the surge may have worked, the United States has failed in their attempts to build a sewer plant and sewage is ‘running in the streets’. EarthSourceMedia considers this progress and a major step up from the blood running in the streets not long ago.

Washington, DC:

ESM learned today that last week a federal judge dismissed a juror working on the Ted Stevens corruption trial for going to the racetrack instead of her fathers funeral. This caused deliberations to start again from the beginning, and defense attorneys were working on two more jurors, apparently going for a ‘Trifecta’. -ESM

  Nigeria:

A villager who is suing Chevron told jurors he was shot 4 times by Nigerian soldiers guarding an oil platform. He said they continued shooting even after he showed them he was unarmed. EarthSourceMedia asks the burning question: “Does Chevron hire the local military to shoot unarmed villagers who go near their oil platforms built next to those villages? People Do”.

EarthSourceMedia Reports for November 5th, 2008

‘Free at Last’

An ESM Mini-editorial

In an historic and landslide election, Barack Obama has been elected 44th President of the United States. Democrats in Congress and the Senate made gains. The sheer force of the event was most visible in the eyes of an adoring public- all carried the real potential for change within themselves. In a display of class, John McCain quieted the venom from his chanting followers and called his former opponent his future President. Class was in no short supply- it radiated from Michelle Obama and Jill Biden as they skipped onstage hand in hand like best friends to a high school pep rally.

Always emotional Oprah Winfrey, who gave Barack’s campaign an important early push, played the unusual role of spectator, her tears flowing like rain. When she played -along with Whoopie Goldberg- her touching role in the movie, ‘The Color Purple, it was beyond comprehension that a black American President would take the oath of office -on steps built by slaves- at his inaugeration at the capitol.

Scenes unfolded in Harlem and Times Square to make even Cynthia McKinney proud; once angry and disenfranchised young black men, resplendent in colorful street attire, stood starry-eyed and rapt as they watched the giant screens with new hope in their hearts.

The process of change is difficult, and no one man, movement or party can make the monumental changes needed in the world today. The challenges of a shrinking world with a growing population will surely test the limits of man. Although polls from this election show 63% of us voted the economy, an ecological window is closing all around us. There is no future in war or in the fossil fuels that send us to war.

We have just taken a giant step- but our only chance for survival in a world worth inhabiting is to put our differences to bed forever, learning instead to focus on that which makes us alike. -ESM

Now the news:

Los Angeles:

Everybodys favorite soundman and homicidal maniac Phil Spector is back on trial for shooting a pretty blonde waitress in the mouth a while back. Known among music titans for his famed ‘wall of sound’ recording technique, Phil is fast becoming known for his ‘wall of insanity’, as more and more witnesses come forward with their Phil Spector horror stories. The latest is when Phil pulled up at ‘Elaines’, a star-papparazzi hangout in Manhattan, and stepped out of a limo. He was surrounded by screaming autograph hounds snapping photos. Things went awry when pistol Phil realized he had been mistaken for ‘Arthur’ actor Dudley Moore.  Like a one-man surge, Spector pulled a gun, screamed, and chased the autograph seekers down the street.

Mexico City:

Mexico’s Interior Minister and other officials were killed in a fiery plane crash yesterday, and more people may have died on the ground. EarthSourceMedia’s investigative nose for news has worked out the percentages for three scenerios:

1 It was an accident, nobody washed those windows- 15%

2 Drug hit-Also on board was the former Assistant Attorney General- 30%

3 Terrorism- The Minister was President Calderon’s closest and most controversial advisor. His family was involved in the swirling controversy surrounding private contracts to Mexico’s state-owned oil company precisely as Calderon sought to make more such contracts legal- 55%

Sacramento, California:

Unnamed State Officials are denying a link between people on the central coast getting sick and having had pesticide sprayed on them. Residents complained of ‘feeling sick’ when agriculture officials sprayed pesticide over two counties to kill the crop-eating light brown apple moth. EarthSourceMedia suggests taking a look at how the pesticide affected other living creatures (the moths). We also suggest getting peoples written permission to be sprayed from planes with chemicals.

Be brave

EarthSourceMedia Reports for ELECTION DAY 2008

Today is a serious day. More than historic, it’s completely unprecedented. Record lines at the polls. Record low ice at the other polls. We are bombing many countries at once. The world hates us. Many of us hate what we’ve become. Poor starve under capitalism, while the rich are handed nearly a trillion dollars under communism! Will the polls even be able to handle the 150 Million projected to vote? Will those votes count? What will tomorrow bring? There are so many questions and no answers. Together, we’ll just have to wait and see.

Now the news…

Guantanamo Bay, Cuba:

A military panel sentenced a man to life in prison, saying he was a ‘propaganda chief’ for Al Qaeda. EarthSourceMedia finds it astonishing the American government would accuse -much less convict- anyone of spreading propaganda. This conviction itself is propaganda. It’s also a perfect pirouetting lead-in to all the war crimes trials happening for everyone except Bush Cheney Rice and Rumsfeld.

Anchorage, Alaska:

The Alaska Personnel Board Monday reached the opposite conclusion that a bipartisan legislative panel did last month about whether or not Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaskan Governor in having her brother-in-law fired from his job as a State Trooper. EarthSourceMedia suggests the matter be settled in the fashion of King Solomon- slice her neatly in two, the top is innocent the bottom guilty. -ESM

Wasington:

An internal investigation has found that an Afghan Police Chief and another man described as a ‘district leader’ both took part in an attack that killed 9 American soldiers at a remote outpost. Apparently, the two lured the soldiers out by throwing rocks. Just another example of our occupying forces being welcomed as liberators.

Mexico:

In continuing drug world violence, a State Police Commander was killed, bringing to 12 the number of officers murdered since Thursday. With police agencies obviously overwhelmed, EarthSourceMedia suggests turning the force over to the drug lords, making them do all the paperwork, maintenance and answer the public complaint lines. Or just legalize the drugs.

Washington, DC:

In the recent corruption trial of disgraced Alaska Senator and political strong-man Ted Stevens, one juror was excused when her dad died. The judge felt she wouldn’t be able to deliberate. It turned out however, the juror was at the racetrack. In a sad turn of events, her horse was shot from an airplane by Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin before it could cross the finish line.

Washington:

The Supreme Court will hear a free speech case Tuesday about ‘fleeting expletives’. Free speech advocates (and that should be everybody) have raised concerns that important speech could be stifled by broadcasters afraid to be fined for a quick, spontaneous cuss word. I myself felt the pinch of censorship last week, suffering through one bleeped out word after another from the lyrics of an orchestra performing a televised tribute to Leonard Burnsteins 90th birthday on KPBS. At EarthSourceMedia, we worry the judge will say, “All improper speech will be fined”, adding, “Shit!” as he slams down the gavel on his pinky finger.

Keep your sense of humor.

That is news for today, election day 2008 and so ”From the voter sign in sheets made of wax paper to the newly disenfranchised who can’t vote because they lost their houses to foreclosure,  I’m joey racano saying, goodnight and go with grace”.  -ESM

‘The Politics of Fear’

Monday, November 3rd, 2008

Have you been exposed?

EarthSourceMedia Reports for November 3rd, 2008

‘The Politics of Fear’

As the sun sets on the most important election the U.S.A. will ever hold, a sense of urgency sweeps the nation, evident on every street corner. In my area, people from a local church stand side by side near a freeway on ramp holding the large yellow signs of hate, ‘YES on 8′. Adding to the ambience, the area is military, and these highways of hate are constantly overflown by newbie-nazis in practice combat choppers that drone endlessly overhead.

The nice lady at Denny’s asks me about Prop 8 as she hands me a grand-slam breakfast to go. I take the food with a twinge of guilt because the bag contains 1 pound of food and 5 pounds of plastic paper and styrafoam.

“I just worry”, she says, “they’re gonna teach my little girl in school that gay is a choice”.

Her meso american lineage apparent in her smooth golden skin and long wavy hair, her smile shone bright. No bigot, just a concerned young mom led astray by the Republican fear factory.

”Tell you what”, I said to her, “sit down next to your girl next time she watches TV. Use a paper and pen and keep count of how many times you see a gun. A car crash. Fire. Murder. Your child, like you, is being bombarded with fear and violence day in day out. It’s that same fear that’s coming out of your mouth when you say you’re afraid she’ll learn to be gay in school.”

You’ve got to hand it to the propaganda machine, they’ve been relentless and thorough. How else could Americans have gotten to the point where we rationalize having such a war machine while people go without? Remember from Orwell’, ‘War is Peace’? Well let me say this while it’s still legal- military might is nothing to be proud of, and troops are not heroes. Not with Cheney leading them. It’s like the sun- without an ozone layer, the sun is no longer your friend. -ESM

 Guantanamo’s future and ours:

With a changing of the Presidential guard at hand, there is talk about what it will take to shut the American Concentration Camp at Guantanamo Bay. With our precious US Constitution in tatters, people there have been imprisoned without trials. ‘Information’ and ‘confessions’ have been procured through torture, while soldiers take photo ops with frightened, cold, sleep deprived prisoners, some laying naked in piles, bruised blindfolded and crying. And I wonder, my gosh, are we still Americans?

Senator Obama, if you manage to get elected despite the voting fraud (not to be confused with voter fraud- the Republicans spin so well) I have to insist you reign in the C.I.A., that frightening agency refered to as the ‘cocaine importing agency’ in the book ‘Into the Buzzsaw’. According to that book, written by well respected journalists canned by their news organizations for reporting things they shouldn’t, the C.I.A. has two functions- moving coke, and assasinations.

And if you manage to avoid being assasinated (a price historically paid by charismatic, young American leaders with the power to unify), I further insist you help shed the cocoon of fossil fuels. He who would truly lead the world must immediately slow, stop and reverse global climate change.

But probably the biggest challenge of all will be to keep such change from dividing us along racial lines. Barack Obama’s greatest tool for change will come from an angry black population held down 300 years. While medicines and schools go lacking for inner city minority youth, America creates ever more devious ways to build a Hydrogen Bomb. But a bomb hath no fury like the liberation of a people enslaved!

Yes, I voted for John McCain. Yes I’m a christian.

No, I hate trees bugs and rats. Yes, I’m a veteran.

Thank you sir. God Bless America.

With 20 hours left until the polls open, this is EarthSourceMedia saying, “Make sure the gas tank is full, there’s a jug of water in the trunk, you have batteries and a flashlight, and an ‘I Love the National Guard’ bumper sticker, because if McCain wins, this country is going to implode.

Goodnight and go with grace”. -ESM

Eagle Eye

EarthSourceMedia Reports for November 2nd, 2008

‘Eagle Eye’

I have been known to argue with people who are stupid or somehow mired in dogma.

People will say something ignorant and then ask me, “Do you know why I said that?” to which I enjoy answering, “Yes”.

“O.K. then, why?” they demand.

“Because of a single traumatic event in your childhood that you still blame yourself for”, I answer confidently- it really pisses them off. And such is a ‘Pathalogos’. This is a term students of philosophy will recognize; an emotional or psychological barrier rooted in one’s past that hides in the background keeping you from your goals. And society, like individuals, can have a pathologos’, keeping a whole nation trudging in the mud, forever unable to clean its boots. Take these first few stories…

Littlerock, Washington:

Cedar Creek Corrections Center has gone green! Inmates at the maximum security prison are recycling, farming, composting and have already grown 8000 pounds of organic veggies this year. EarthSourceMedia sees this as a perfect example of a societal pathalogos. The prison is trying to evolve, but is still mired in the fact that it’s a prison, where we keep our citizens in cages.

Consider the drawback of human beings, who started with a Madulla Oblongata (reptilian brain in charge of involuntary activities like heartbeat). Though we later evolved a cerebral cortex (abstract thought center), we’re stuck with that reptile-brain as our base. Hence, we kill, shoot, bite, bomb and do other reprehensible things. The greening of our prisons is dogmatic; we have merely learned to enslave our people sustainably. -ESM

Orange County, California:

(Sung to the tune of Linda Ronstadt’s, ‘It’s so easy’)…

“It’s so easy to vote OC, it’s so easy to vote OC, it’s so easy (so easy, so easy…)

As a candidate for Huntington Beach City Council back in 2002, I remember when the Orange County Board of Supervisors spent 26 Million Dollars on electronic voting machines. This was puzzling because Orange County had the least voting problems of any County in the U.S. in the fateful year of 2000. I guess as a highly Republican County, they wanted to get their hands on some of the executable files those Rube Goldberg Machines are famous for! Todays L.A. Times ran a story on how easy it is to vote in Orange County this election cycle. Early voting stations have been set up at malls, John Wayne Airport, and Universities. Well, EarthSourceMedia says, ‘there’s that pathalogos again, because it’s easy as hell to vote, but will that vote count? Don’t count on it’.

Newport News, Virginia:

In approving a 4% raise, the union representing workers at Northrop Grumman’s Newport News shipyard avoided a delay in completion of a mighty Aircraft Carrier to be named the U.S.S. George H. Bush. The ship will be commissioned in January. Meanwhile, across the continent in San Francisco, voters Tuesday will be deciding on Proposition ‘R’, which would rename the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant, calling it instead the ‘George W. Bush Sewage Plant’. EarthSourceMedia considers it appropriate; Dad made war, son did the same shit.

San Diego, California:

Retired Gunnery Sargeant Nick Popaditch lost his right eye to an ‘RPG’, a Rocket-Propelled Grenade back in Fallouja, where the U.S. basically murdered the whole city and tried to kill an Italian lady reporter to cover it up. Since returning to civilian life, he has written a book, become a motivational speaker and had doctors make him a prosthetic eye bearing the Marine Corps insignia. Take it from me, it’s an eery spectacle. He is studying to become a teacher. Picture a class being led in the pledge of allegiance by a guy with a hypnotic Marine Corps eye. If I had a kid and their new teacher walked into class with a military insignia for an eyeball my kid would be changing schools mighty fast.

More San Diego:

A man who crashed a costume party on Halloween with his friends opened fire on guests when asked to leave. One person was shot in the leg. Police are seeking a man with fangs, cape and a light complexion, and a tall, stiff accomplice with a large scar across his forehead.

This is news and for EarthSourceMedia, I’m joey racano saying, “From the strange land where all the unsent absentee ballots go, to the Kellog Brown and Root Detention Centers waiting in Arizona, …Goodnight and go with grace”. ESM

Meal the Bay

EarthSourceMedia Reports for November 1st, 2008

‘Meal the Bay’

So here we are, parked at a campground 7 miles north of the International Border, and I just got a visit from the local wildlife. Having left a bag of cleaning rags on the floor next to a chrome wheel that needed shining, I was reminded by a scorpion that you shouldn’t leave things on the ground while camping. The little bugger got into my ‘hoody’, and stung me in the throat! Ouch. Did I say ouch? I meant OUCH! No, I didn’t hurt ‘im, it’s not my style. But my throat’s swollen and darn sore. Packed a punch! Now I’m trying to figure out what I’d rather do- get stung in the throat by another scorpion, or read that moronic article in today’s Los Angeles Times about Mark Gold and his brother who eats Goat Penis.

Mark Gold is an ocean activist after my own heart (except he’s light years to my right) and his group Heal the Bay has a measure of credibility mine, -the Ocean Outfall Group- will never enjoy because we push too hard.

But being front page in the Los Angeles Times and using the opportunity to talk about Goat Penis’ while San Diego dumps 180 Million Gallons of primary sewage a day 4 miles off Point Loma, that’s just not seizing the day. I called his office a few weeks ago to try to get some help down here in San Diego, where Mayor Sanders has mistaken the ocean for a dialysis machine, and the girl who answered was nasty. Just like Marks idiot brother, who eats Goat Penis and even Whales, apparently. And live Octopus. I saw his picture in the paper, and even though I’m bad with names, I always remember an asshole. There’s a lot of that going around.

And the Times? The LA Times is the best paper around. My good friend Jack McCurdy shared a Pulitzer there. But with the ocean under assault like never before, they go and do a story on Mark Gold fighting his brother over a Goat Penis?

The brother also won a Pulitzer as a food critic, so they may be giving those things away like too-ripe bananas at Albertsons. But hey, LA Times? The San Diego Union Tribune is saying lack of regulation didn’t cause the stock market to crash, so I don’t think they’re going to cover an activist who came to San Diego to slay a sewer dragon. Maybe you can write about San Diego’s outfall pipe (www.stopthewaiver.com) next time you get the urge for something long and squirty?

United Nations:

Imagine you’re the worlds biggest arms dealer, and some rogue wanted to make a treaty controlling arms sales? OK, so the arms dealer is the United States and the ‘rogue’ is the entire rest of the world with the exception of Zimbabwe. Such was the case yesterday where the United States and Zimbabwe found themselves on the wrong end of a vote of the UN General Assembly. 147 of 192 nations voted for such a treaty, and only the two recalcitrants voted against. Now, someone please tell me once again that the US spreads peace, is for peace, wants peace, or in any way, manner, shape or form has anything to do with the persuit of peace. In case anyone doesn’t already know, the United States of America fights terror all around the world by selling more arms -by double- than anyone else in the world, and spends more on weapons than the next 60 largest nations combined. The only ones the US doesn’t want armed are its own citizens, for reasons that will soon become obvious for those ‘behind the curve’.-ESM

Italy:

Famed author and feminist Erica Jong had some interesting things to say in an interview with Corriere della Sera, an Italian daily based in Milan. She says that if the ‘Republican Mafia steals this election, it will spark another US civil war’ and that ‘blood will run in the streets’. Some of her quotes and insights were profound, such as “It is no coincidence that Bush is calling soldiers home from Iraq, so Cheney can send them into the streets against Americans”. We at EarthSourceMedia think Italians are still sore about American Soldiers killing the head of the Italian secret service at a checkpoint as he shielded an Italian lady reporter from their bullets.

Baghdad:

US deaths and violence in general is down in Iraq, but it isn’t because the ’surge’ (escalating the war) is ‘working’- it’s because the ethnic cleansing we caused is largely finished, with one group of kooks killing the other, whereas, before we got involved, Sadaam Hussein had the other group of kooks killing that other one. See? Mission accomplished! -ESM

Washington:

An article in today’s USA Today (a paper owned by Korean Christian wingnut Sun-Yung Moon, who likes to have big events where lots of people get married in a football field) says that abortion is a central issue for some voters. Well yes, and those people may be wierdos who want to tell other people how to live, but they vote. Scary, isn’t it? So, the Republicans simply make sure every election to have abortion and gay marriage on the ballot. Then, they instruct pastors at all the wing ding churches to tell their brainwashed attendees to go vote for the fetuses, and vote for McCain while you’re in there.

It’s interesting how these people care about fetuses, but once you’re born, they couldn’t care less about you or your mother. Social programs? Only if they have something to do with a bloodied homeless guy hanging on a cross. Or even weirder, these people hate abortions but have no problem that we’re killing babies in other countries. That’s right- listen to the republicans tell us over and over that American soldiers have been fighting side-by-side with Iraqi soldiers, because they all want the same thing- to fight terror. But if the Iraqi soldiers and the American soldiers aren’t killing each other, than just who does that leave for them to actually kill?

Hint: Here is a list of who is in Iraq. Find the soldiers who are fighting ’side-by-side’ and cross them off the list.

1 Iraqi soldiers

2 American soldiers

3 The Iraqi people

That’s it for now- EarthSourceMedia thanks the LA Times for the rediculous retro series of  articles about 1940’s gangland it has been carrying every day, filling up the whole paper. After all, there’s not much really happening in present-day USA now is there? Except that the bones of that aviator Steve Fossett have finally been found near the aircraft. And that one’s a little mysterious- they’ve also found a fork and Mark Gold’s brother’s footprints leading away from the area!

For EarthSourceMedia, I’m joey racano saying,

“Goodnight and go with grapes“. ESM
